OpenAir has seen tremendous growth over the last year, and we are looking forward to continued growth in the coming years. Our goal is to continue to provide a high level of training, service and exceptional aircraft to our customers.

Check current NOTAM’s for updated information on Leesburg Temporary Tower.

A temporary control tower will be in operation the following dates and times at the Leesburg Executive Airport (JYO). In accordance with 14 CFR 91.126, pilots must contact Leesburg tower prior to operating within 4 miles of JYO and below the Washington Tri-Area Class B Airspace.

The control tower will be open daily during the following dates and times:




Daily June 5th through August 12th, 2017



Daily August 13th through September 8th, 2017



Two−way radio communications with Leesburg Tower is required. When the tower is open, arriving VFR aircraft are to contact Leesburg Tower on 127.5 prior to 4 miles from the airport. Arriving IFR aircraft contact Leesburg Tower as directed by Potomac Approach. The conditions of the Leesburg Maneuvering Area as stated in the current Special Flight Rules Area NOTAM remain in effect.

Ben Berman, Chief Pilot

Ben is our Chief Pilot and Director of Safety at OpenAir

He administers pilot training, the safety management system, and he also performs operational control for company flights.

Berman is a Boeing 737 Captain at a major U.S. air carrier, where he has also served on the Line Operational Safety Audit, Human Factors, and Merger Integration teams. He has worldwide operational experience at the airline.

He has thirteen years of experience as a flight crew human factors researcher for San Jose State University at the NASA Ames Research Center in the areas of flight crew reliability, aircraft alerting systems, and airline performance data. With NASA colleagues, he is the co-author of The Limits of Expertise: Rethinking Pilot Error and the Causes of Airline Accidents.
